I make sure there is no mystery by telling you how I pack my records up front. As a regular eBayer myself, I know the mystery of whether or not a record will arrive in good condition can be quite frustrating and agonizing. Most of the time they’re brand new ones that cost me $2.00 a piece, but occasionally, I reuse a record box that someone shipped a record to me in. I charge a modest handling fee (included in shipping quote below) to help cover supplies and time. Whether or not that makes it M, M-, or NM, doesn't mean much to me. If I don't describe a particular item, assume that it is in "like New" condition. If it's used, I'll describe whatever visible flaws I see. Occasionally, I receive a new record from the label or distro with a small seam split or a bent corner. Most of them were purchased new from independent stores or distros, and I have stored each in a plastic sleeve to ensure that each record remains in about the same condition. Too often when I buy on eBay, people rate items as "Very Good" that I think are ready for the trash. I'm not going to try to be an expert on grading.
I do not own a record store and I don't read Goldmine. Grading Policies and General Remarks on Vinyl Condition: And it seems like doubles are as good a place to start culling from the collection as any. But alas, I need to part with it-I am really running out of room (and money). I should probably hold on to this a little longer, because you know that among completists this edition will be coveted for a while given its heavy weight and top-quality jacket. In April, I picked up the Heady Nuggs box set, which includes a reissue of Soft Bulletin, though it is not as nice as this one, as it’s on standard weight vinyl and did not include a gatefold sleeve. I couldn’t pass this up when I found a copy after it became unavailable in most online stores, but, as I’ve had the cd for years, I don’t know that I ever put this on the turntable. The record and sleeve are in Near Mint or Like New condition. This reissue helped lower the prices, but sometime in early 2011, even the reissues became scarce and hard to find. Before the label released this back in 2009, the originals were fetching upwards of $250 or $300 pretty regularly here on eBay.
